4-Day Simien Mountains Trek from Gondar
DAY 1
Gondar – Debark – Buyit Ras – Sankaber
Your guide and private 4WD vehicle will pick you up early from your hotel in Gondar. After a 2.5–3 hour drive to Debark, you'll complete park registration and meet your local scout. We then continue by 4WD to Buyit Ras where the actual trek begins.
The trail follows the spectacular escarpment through highland grasslands, offering impressive views of dramatic cliffs and deep valleys. Along the way, you may see Gelada baboons in their natural habitat before arriving at Sankaber Camp to enjoy a stunning mountain sunset.
- Drive: Gondar to Debark (100km / 2.5-3 hrs) & Debark to Buyit Ras (30km / 1 hr)
- Trek: 8–10 km / 3–4 hours
- Elevation: 3,100m to 3,250m (10,660 ft)

DAY 2
Sankaber – Jinbar Waterfall – Gich
After breakfast, begin trekking along the escarpment with spectacular views over deep valleys and enormous cliffs. You'll make your way to the Jinbar Waterfall viewpoint, where the river plunges dramatically into the gorge below.
After crossing the river, gradually climb toward Gich village. The landscape becomes increasingly high-altitude, featuring open grasslands and the distinctive Giant Lobelia plant. Relax at Gich Camp and watch for highland birds like lammergeyers and thick-billed ravens.
- Trek: 15–16 km / 6–7 hours
- Elevation: 3,250m to 3,600m (11,810 ft)

DAY 3
Gich – Imet Gogo – Inatye – Chennek
After an early breakfast, begin one of the most spectacular trekking days of the journey. Cross the high Gich Plateau and continue to Imet Gogo (3,926m), one of the most famous viewpoints in the Simiens, offering 360-degree panoramic views.
Continue along the ridge to Inatye (4,070m), the highest point of this trek, before descending toward Chennek. This area is known for its incredible scenery and is one of the best places to spot the endemic Walia ibex.
- Trek: 14–16 km / 6–8 hours
- Highest Elevation: Inatye at 4,070m (13,350 ft)
- Overnight: Chennek Camp (3,620m)
DAY 4
Chennek – Viewpoints – Debark – Gondar
Wake up early to enjoy the morning views around Chennek. After breakfast, take a morning walk along the escarpment to observe Walia ibex, Gelada baboons, and majestic highland birds one last time.
After the morning exploration, meet your 4WD vehicle and begin the drive back through the mountains to Debark, and finally on to Gondar. You will be transferred to your hotel in the late afternoon, concluding your adventure.

- Drive: Chennek to Gondar via Debark (Total driving 3.5–5.5 hrs)
